And Microsoft screws me again…
This time they have removed the ability to record macros in PowerPoint 2007. They have a support page entitled “What happened to the macro recorder?” but don’t give any answer to that specific question!!!! (And their advice to work around this little inconvenience–learn Visual Basic.)
I am more than willing to give a software company the benefit of the doubt when it comes to certain design elements. Engineering software is a complex endeavor. I tried to write a simple iPhone app recently–waaaaayy more complex than you can imagine. Therefore, I believe that if a design element is missing or was removed, then it was for a good reason.* The best thing to do in such a situation–especially if you’re removing a design element that is standard on EVERY OTHER piece of software you produce–is simply explain why it went away…ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE A SUPPORT PAGE ON YOUR OWN WEBSITE THAT’S ENTITLED “What happened to Design Element X?”
Microsoft, you continually give me headaches. Where’s the tylenol?!?!
*But that doesn’t mean I won’t complain about it or try to push other companies to fix the design flaw.
