Is Health Insurance Coverage Rising or Falling?

August 26, 2008

Several newspapers today are reporting on a Census Bureau report indicating the number of uninsured Americans is declining.  However, GoozNews points out that there is a steady decline in private insurance coverage.  Americans are seemingly relying more and more on publicly-funded insurance.  As private, employer-sponsored health insurance declines, will Americans move towards individual private health insurance or publicly-sponsored health coverage (or even a single-payer system)?

Update:  Many publications and blogs are commenting on this Census Bureau report.  WSJ Healthblog covers it here.

Update:  Maggie Mahar at the HealthBeat Blog has excellent commentary on the Census Bureau report.
